29 Aug Will ViSalus Help me Lose Weight?
Recently, a friend of mine asked me my professional opinion about ViSalus products. Specifically, he wanted to know if the products were safe, if they were a waste of money, and if ViSalus would help him lose weight. If you’re considering ViSalus products – or currently taking them – this is the post for you.
Are ViSalus Shakes and Products Good for You?
As a nutritionist, I’m constantly approached by people asking me to join their MLM business and/or promote their products. I’ve personally had representatives of the ViSalus brand tell me ViSalus is ‘good for weight loss’ because:
- ‘it’s cheap’
- ‘it has protein’
- ‘protein makes you skinny’
- ‘you don’t have to workout to lose weight on ViSalus’
These have been my personal experiences. If you sell ViSalus I am in NO WAY criticizing your hustle. If you believe in it, if you like it, go on with your bad self!
My issue is having anyone misrepresent products, promising unrealistic results, and basically trying to sell $*** without knowing their S***. As a former fat girl, I know first hand how frustrating and pointless products have been… I’ve wasted tons of time and money on them. Which is why I became a trainer and nutritionist in the first place. I was sick and tired of struggling, trying everything and NOT getting results. Here’s the God’s honest truth about ViSalus products…
Will the Ingredients In ViSalus Help me Lose Weight?
ViSalus Shakes are supposedly a healthy weight loss tool but look carefully at the ingredients and you can see that the healthy claim is not all that it seems. Some of the ingredients that ViSalus Shakes contain are far from good for your health. Take a look at this nutrition label I found on ViSalus.com.
• ViSalus Products Contain Natural and artificial flavors
You may think that natural sounds good, but a high proportion of natural flavors contain monosodium glutamate (MSG). The chemicals in MSG can lead to side effects such as migraines, irregularities of the heart, and mood swings.
• ViSalus Products Contain Sucralose
Sucralose, sometimes retails under the name “Splenda”; it is a chlorocarbon that exists within the same chemical compound family as such toxic substances as insecticides and disinfectants. It is actually used as a weight loss product because it passes straight through a digestive system that doesn’t recognize it so doesn’t know how to deal with it; how can that possibly be good?
Sucralose is also addictive; it makes you crave sugar. So drinking one of the shakes will actually make your body want an intake of more food.
Will ViSalus Help me Lose Weight?
In a society where obesity is fairly common, approximately 35% of Americans are overweight, it is tempting to use a product that promises a healthy and quick way of losing weight. The problem is that the majority of people who are tempted by the claims of ViSalus Shakes are after a quick fix; they are people who are noticeably overweight and have a high sugar, highly processed diet. Pretty much anything that is low in calories is going to see some reduction in weight initially when eaten instead of their usual diet.
This does not mean that the weight loss will continue with the sucralose leading to cravings, and with the body adjusting to the new intake of calories. That is not the worst thing, the additives present are not healthy and the shakes you are drinking are just as processed as the food you have been eating; nothing about the shakes is either natural or healthy.
ViSalus Representatives are Bia$ed
There are statements in most of the comments you can find in online forums about how ViSalus Shakes have helped people to lose weight but these are mostly from people who are selling the product or desperate individuals who have seen some early weight loss. Creep on any weight loss forum and you’ll see pro-ViSalus posters are usually blocked or reported as spam…
For all the professed benefits of ViSalus Shakes, the facts couldn’t be further from the truth.
Virtually all of the people I’ve personally met who sell ViSalus products do not have any previous experience in the health, nutrition, or exercise field. Every single one has been a Basic Betty or a Scammy Sammy. They personally like the products or want to their own business. Some have lost weight… but they don’t really understand the basics behind nutrition or what’s really in the products they are selling.
I personally know ViSalus reps who make 4 figures a month… There are many boasts of great earnings potential and incentives which doesn’t say much for the product itself. By the way… ViSalus makes it really easy to start selling their products and give basic and general marketing tools, with little to no insight as to the ingredients in their products.
The fact remains that the shakes are full of artificial products, some of which have known side effects. They are also being sold by individuals who have no healthcare or nutritional experience and who have a vested interest in selling the product in order to earn money themselves.
My advice? Think about what you want. What is your goal? Do you want to lose fat, gain muscle, both? Once you figure out what you want, the choose a natural protein shake that works best for your weight loss (and health) goals.
